About The Artist
Born in Swansea, the artist Arwen Banning trained at Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Since then she has lived in New York and then London focusing on painting people rather than the landscapes of recent years. She was twice selected for the National Portrait Gallery's BP Portrait Award. Arwen moved back to Wales in 2004 where she was inspired by the Welsh landscape, urban and rural. Arwen works in oil, soft pastel and mixed media. She also makes figurative, sculptural ceramics.

Mineless Town mixed media on canvas
Instead of a traditional landscape painting of a village, this painting is more a group portrait where the houses stand for people. Every house has its own personality and they huddle together on the steep sides of the South Wales Valley. Mixed media on canvas.
